"Pacific Rim" (PG-13): Travis Beacham, an alumnus of UNC School of the Arts, co-wrote this big, loud and fun action film with director Guillermo del Toro. The story is set in the near future, when mankind is using giant robots to fight building-sized monsters coming through a dimensional portal in the Pacific Ocean. Charlie Hunnam stars as an iconic pilot who is recruited back into action after a tragic accident, with Idris Elba as his no-nonsense commander Stacker Pentecost. The supporting cast includes scene-stealing roles for Charlie Day, Burn Gorman and Ron Perlman.

"The Heat" (R): Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy star in this action comedy from director Paul Fieg ("Bridesmaids") about an uptight FBI agent and a loudmouthed Boston cop who join forces to take down a drug kingpin.

"Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" (Unrated): The bombastic stand-up comedian stars in this concert film, which was filmed in front of a live audience at Madison Square Garden.

"Maniac" (Unrated): Elijah Wood stars in this eerie slasher film, based on a 1980 cult classic, about an introverted young man who is secretly a serial killer. The movie is filmed from the killer's point of view, with Wood only visible in reflections.

"Love Actually" (R): The British romantic comedy is back in a new special edition, including a newly remastered version of the film, bonus features, and a Christmas ornament.

"Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition" (PG-13): The two-part animated feature, is combined into one film for this new release. Extras include a new commentary and a 70-minute profile of Frank Miller, the writer and artist of the original comic.

"Unlucky Charms" (Unrated): Jeryl Prescott Sales, a former Winston-Salem resident who co-starred in the first season of "The Walking Dead," is among the cast of this horror comedy.

"Jug Face" (Unrated): This low-budget horror film tells the story of a pregnant teen in a small community that occasionally sacrifices one of its own to a mysterious force.

"To Jennifer" (Unrated): This thriller, about a man who suspects his girlfriend of cheating on him, was filmed and edited entirely on the iPhone.

"The New Three Stooges: Complete Cartoon Collection" (Unrated): Moe, Larry and Curly Joe star in this animated series, which also featured live-action sequences filmed with the Stooges. This five-disc set has all 156 cartoons and 40 live sequences, as well as a bonus CD with sing-along and Christmas songs performed by the Stooges.

"Superheroes: The Never-Ending Battle" (Unrated): This PBS documentary looks at the history of comic books and the superheroes they made part of the popular culture.

Holiday Movies: halloween cartoons on dvd isn't here yet, but we already have a sleighful of family-friendly Christmas movies being released this week. They include "Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade," "The Town Christmas Forgot" with Lauren Holly, "Mistletoe Over Manhattan" with Tricia Helfer, "Cancel Christmas" with Judd Nelson, "Hitched for the Holidays" with Joey Lawrence, "Come Dance With Me," "The Santa Suit" with Kevin Sorbo, "Home For Christmas: A Golden Christmas 3" with adorable Retriever puppies, the Hallmark Holiday Collection four-film set, the Lifetime Holiday four-film set and more.

"ThanksKilling 3" (Unrated): And if wholesome holiday entertainment isn't your thing, there's this raunchy, ridiculous horror comedy about a killer turkey puppet on a rampage.
